Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City finished level at 1-1 after K. Jelacic put the home side ahead in the seventh minute and A. Nabbout replied for City early in the second half.
Victory led at the break after Jelacic scored in the seventh minute from C. Nduka's assist. Melbourne City were booked in first-half stoppage time when Nabbout was shown a yellow card on 45+1 minutes, and the interval arrived with Victory 1-0 up.
