York United vs Cavalry FC 3-1

York United beat Cavalry FC 3-1 at York Lions Stadium, with Steffen Yeates scoring twice and Sebastian Gonzales also on target. Cavalry had more of the ball and more shots, but York took their chances and stayed in front after going 2-0 up before half-time.

Gonzales opened the scoring in the 6th minute from Jorge Ariel Almagro Albán's assist, and Yeates made it 2-0 in the 12th minute, again set up by Almagro Albán. York took that 2-0 lead into half-time.

York widened the gap on 69 minutes when Yeates scored his second of the match, once more from Almagro Albán, to make it 3-0. Cavalry made three changes on 65 minutes, sending on Curtis Ofori, Robert Owen Antoniuk and Maël Henry, and they pulled one back in the 83rd minute through Amer Didic, assisted by Ali Musse, but York saw out the closing stages without giving up another goal. York made late changes as well, with Luca Accettola replacing Almagro Albán on 86 minutes, Eduardo Ramos coming on for Gonzales in stoppage time, and Kevonte Tyrique Jaaziah Clarke replacing Yeates on 90+7 minutes.

The numbers pointed to a tighter contest than the scoreline suggested. Cavalry had 55% possession and 480 passes to York's 404, and they also led 18-12 for shots and 6-0 for corners. York were more accurate in front of goal, with 6 shots on target to Cavalry's 5, and their four saves compared with Cavalry's three helped preserve the two-goal cushion for most of the second half.

York collected four yellow cards, to Cavalry's three. Raúl López was booked in the 33rd minute, Steffen Yeates on 50, Luke Singh on 73 and Jorge Ariel Almagro Albán on 77. Cavalry's cautions went to Harrison Paton on 71, E. Kobza on 78 after VAR had already seen a penalty cancelled for him in the 35th minute and a card upgrade cancelled for Ali Musse in the 41st, and Ali Musse again in stoppage time on 90+2.
