Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made a strong return to La Liga, registering four goals and two assists in Deportivo La Coruña’s first four league matches of the season.
Four games, six direct goal involvements
The Gabon forward has contributed in every one of Deportivo’s opening fixtures, scoring against Elche, Málaga and Valencia before taking centre stage against Villarreal.
Deportivo beat Villarreal 3-2 in an entertaining match, with Aubameyang involved in all three of his side’s goals. He set up Luismi for the opener, provided the assist for Zakaria’s goal and then scored the winner himself.
The 37-year-old’s numbers put him among La Liga’s early front-runners in the scoring chart, alongside players such as Raphinha and Kylian Mbappé.
Early doubts, quick answers
Aubameyang’s return to Spain initially raised questions about his age and whether he could still perform at the top level. Four games into the campaign, he has answered with goals, assists and a central role in Deportivo’s fast start.
If that form continues, he will quickly become one of the defining figures of Deportivo’s season.
