Austria opened their 2026 World Cup Group J campaign with a 3-1 win over Jordan at San Francisco Stadium.
Romano Schmid put Austria ahead in the 20th minute, giving them a half-time lead. Jordan levelled after the break through Ali Alwan in the 50th minute, before Marko Arnautovic had a 67th-minute goal ruled out by VAR for a foul.
Austria retook control in the 76th minute when Yazan Abu al Arab turned the ball into his own net. Arnautovic then added a late penalty in the 90+12th minute, the latest goal of the tournament so far.
The result left Austria second in Group J behind Argentina. Jordan and Algeria sit below them in the standings.
