Austria meet Jordan in opening Group J clash

Austria face Jordan in their opening Group J match at the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday morning, with kick-off at 7:30 and Dahan Bida officiating at San Francisco Bay Stadium.

The pair also share a group with Argentina and Algeria, making this a game that could shape both teams’ chances of reaching the knockout rounds.

Austria arrive in stronger form. Ralf Rangnick’s side have taken four wins and a draw from their last five matches, beating Tunisia 1-0, South Korea 1-0, Ghana 5-1 and Cyprus 2-0. They have conceded only two goals across that run.

Jordan are set for their first World Cup appearance and go into the tournament looking to make an impact. Jamal Salami’s team have drawn two and lost three of their last five, with defeats against Colombia and Switzerland and draws with Nigeria and Costa Rica.

Argentina are widely seen as the group’s top side, so points here could prove important for both Austria and Jordan as they try to stay in contention for the last 16.
