Omar Abdulkadir Artan, the unfortunate referee who was not able to enter the United States to lead matches on the 2026 World Cup, has been assigned to lead one of UEFA's finest fixtures this season: the UEFA Super Cup. The Somalian will travel to Salzburg to lead the match between Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain and Europa League winner Aston Villa.

Artan, who is only 34 years old, has received a massive compliment by Aleksander Čeferin, UEFA president, who said: “Omar Artan is an excellent young but already experienced referee, who has proven himself at the highest competition level of the Confederation of African Football. Football is made to connect people, and UEFA wants to show its respect to Omar and his outstanding officiating skills, which had earned him such a prestigious nomination. I am grateful to my friend CAF President Patrice Motsepe for supporting enthusiastically our initiative.”

The UEFA Super Cup final will take place on the 12th of August.
