The third week of the 2026-27 La Liga season offered a clear early pattern: Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have already started to pull away from the rest.
Barcelona and Madrid stay on the front foot
Barcelona beat Rayo Vallecano 5-2 in the weekend’s standout game. Hansi Flick’s side fell behind to Sergio Camello’s opener, but reacted quickly and kept their attacking rhythm throughout. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal scored twice each, while Barcelona posted 26 shots and close to 70% possession. The result also left their defensive frailties in view after they conceded twice.
Real Madrid were just as dominant, although they kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 win over Malaga. Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Arda Guler all played key roles as Madrid continued their perfect start with another strong attacking display.
Atletico keep the chase alive
Atletico Madrid recorded one of the week’s biggest results by winning 3-1 away at Sevilla. Alex Baena scored twice for Diego Simeone’s side, underlining Atletico’s bid to stay in the title race.
Elsewhere, Levante stunned Real Betis 5-2, Valencia lost 3-1 to Deportivo La Coruna, Real Sociedad beat Espanyol 2-1, Athletic Bilbao defeated Celta Vigo 2-0 and Alaves won 1-0 at Villarreal.
