Barcelona’s trip to face Paris Saint-Germain has drawn concern in Catalonia over unrest in Paris, even after France’s interior ministry said there is no issue with staging the match.
Safety worries in Barcelona
Catalan outlets have published several notes about the security situation in France after recent incidents and violent protests in the capital. The tension in Paris, which began on Saturday, has fed anxiety around Barcelona’s team travel and the supporters due to make the journey.
Parisian officials say they are preparing to host Barcelona at the Parc des Princes, while Spanish media have questioned what the unrest could mean for the players and fans staying in the city.
France says the game is going ahead
French interior minister Laurent Nuñez said there is no problem with Tuesday night’s match between PSG and Barcelona, or with other European fixtures. UEFA and French officials say the game will be played at 20:00 UTC on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes.
Despite the expected presence of 2,200 Barcelona fans in Paris, France’s anti-violence police unit, DNLH, has not classified the match as high risk.
