Belgium beat the United States 4-1 in Seattle to eliminate the 2026 World Cup hosts in the last 16, following Mexico and Canada out at the same stage.
Charles De Ketelaere opened the scoring in the ninth minute after Nicolas Raskin’s cross, before Malik Tillman’s free-kick took a deflection and wrong-footed Thibaut Courtois on 31 minutes. Belgium were back in front two minutes later when Leandro Trossard crossed for De Ketelaere to head home his second.
The Belgians added a third after the break when Matt Freese’s mistake allowed De Ketelaere to steal possession and set up Hans Vanaken. Sebastian Berhalter went close from distance and Folarin Balogun was denied by Courtois as the United States chased a way back in, but Romelu Lukaku sealed it deep into stoppage time.
Belgium now move on to face Spain in the quarter-finals on Friday, 19 July, at the Los Angeles Stadium.
