Bezos-led consortium closes in on Liverpool stake

Investment talks near finish line

A consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is reported to be close to buying around a third of Liverpool. Sky News says the group is led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.

According to the report, Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group could announce a final agreement as soon as this week. Bhatia previously held a stake in Queens Park Rangers.

Valuation could reach £4.4bn

The reported investment would value Liverpool at about £4.4bn ($5.9bn), which would put the deal among the highest club valuations in football history.

FSG took control of Liverpool in 2010 and has been seeking outside investment in recent years while keeping control of the club. A final deal at the reported valuation would underline the club's rise in value across 16 years of FSG ownership.

Liverpool won the Premier League in 2025 but has entered a period of change. Arne Slot has left as head coach, Mohamed Salah has departed, and Michael Edwards stepped down in July as chief executive of football for FSG.

Liverpool and FSG have not responded to the reports.
