Brighton have emerged as one of Europe’s most productive attacks under Fabian Hürzeler, with 29 goals in their first 10 games in all competitions this season.
Numbers behind the start
According to Opta, only Barcelona, with 43 goals, and Bayern Munich, with 30, have scored more than the Premier League side among clubs in Europe’s top five leagues. Brighton are averaging 2.9 goals per match and sit ahead of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in that ranking.
Their latest burst came in a 4-0 win over Kauno Žalgiris of Lithuania in the Conference League, when Georginio Rutter scored twice and Jack Hinshelwood and Matt O'Riley added the others. That was Brighton’s fifth straight win in all competitions, a run in which they have scored 17 goals.
Premier League form
The club have also made a strong start in the Premier League, taking 13 points from six matches to sit third. They have scored 18 league goals, the best total in the division, with 4-0 wins over Aston Villa and 3-0 against Arsenal among their early results.
Ten different Brighton players have scored in the league this season. Hürzeler’s side have done that through pressing, rotation and quick use of space, and they will need that level of output to hold their position as the schedule tightens.
