UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin says he has no plans to run for FIFA president and challenge Gianni Infantino in the next election.
Čeferin dismisses a bid
Čeferin, who has led UEFA since 2016, said he is not interested in standing for the FIFA job for two reasons: he likes his work at UEFA and believes there comes a point when life should be enjoyed a little more.
The 58-year-old Slovenian has been one of Infantino's sharper critics in recent years, but he said he intends to keep opposing the FIFA president from his current post. He argued that staying out of the race makes that criticism more credible, and said UEFA will keep pushing for change at FIFA's top level.
March 2027 race still open
If Infantino decides to run again, Čeferin has suggested another candidate could step forward without revealing their identity. CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani has been mentioned as a possible name for the election, which is due to take place in Rabat, Morocco, in March 2027.
