Chelsea are closing in on a deal for Emiliano Martinez, with the Argentina goalkeeper now a serious option for Stamford Bridge. The move is not done yet, but negotiations are continuing.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Martinez has given his approval for a switch to Chelsea. Reports also suggest the deal could be a loan, although the exact structure and financial details are still being worked out.
Martinez's situation at Aston Villa has changed after the arrival of Zion Suzuki, who is expected to become the club's new first-choice goalkeeper. That has left the World Cup winner open to leaving Villa, where he has been since 2020.
Chelsea weigh up goalkeeper options
Chelsea have taken the situation seriously because of uncertainty around their own goalkeeping position. Robert Sanchez's early-season form has raised concern, and the club are looking at adding an experienced, high-level keeper.
Martinez was also linked with Juventus earlier in the summer, but that move did not go through. Chelsea now appear the likelier destination, with the player himself said to be keen on the move.
