Chelsea have signed Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa for £7.5 million on a three-year contract.

The Argentina international has ended a six-year spell at Villa to join Chelsea as the club continued to add to its squad for the Premier League season. Martínez, 33, won the World Cup with Argentina and has now moved to west London.
Martínez said he was delighted to arrive at the club and described the move as an easy decision for him and his family. He added that he wants to win at Chelsea and believes the club is a good fit because it fights for trophies.
Why Chelsea moved
The transfer comes after questions over Chelsea’s goalkeeping options in recent weeks, with Robert Sánchez criticised for inconsistent displays. He was at fault for one of the goals in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Fulham in their latest match.
That performance appears to have accelerated Chelsea’s search for a new goalkeeper, with Martínez now brought in to compete for the position.
