Croatia beat Ghana 2-1 in Philadelphia to secure the result it needed in Group L. Petar Sucic put Croatia ahead in the 31st minute with a low finish after sustained pressure on the Ghana defence.
Croatia spent much of the second half protecting that lead, but Ghana levelled in the 73rd minute through Derrick Lukassen. The goal stood after a VAR check.
Croatia responded quickly. Luka Modric’s corner in the 83rd minute was headed in by Nikola Vlasic to restore the lead and settle the match.
England finished top of Group L with seven points, Croatia came second with six, and Ghana finished third with four. All three sides progressed to the next round, while Panama exited without a point.
