Cucurella: We Deserved the Victory Against France

Marc Cucurella said Spain are ready for either Argentina or England in the World Cup final after their 2-0 semi-final victory over France.

The left-back, who has just joined Real Madrid, said Spain deserved the result after anticipating France’s threat on the break and managing the game well from the start.

He said the opening goal from the penalty spot changed the match, giving Spain confidence and allowing them to control the tempo. Cucurella also said Spain had kept full control for long periods and defended with discipline to limit France’s counter-attacks.

Looking back at Spain’s 2010 World Cup winners, Cucurella called that side an exceptional generation and said the current squad had grown up watching them. He added that this team now has a chance to repeat that success and make history of its own.

Cucurella finished by saying reaching a World Cup final is never easy, but Spain now await a powerful opponent in the showpiece match.
