Gianluigi Donnarumma has backed Italy to rebuild under Roberto Mancini after their failure to reach the previous World Cup.
Donnarumma sets out Italy target
Speaking to Sky, the Italy captain said he expects the Azzurri to get back on track, qualify for Euro 2024 and then reach the next World Cup. He said Italy can return to the level the country deserves with Mancini in charge.
Donnarumma also reflected on the mood around the squad after the qualifying setback. He described the summer as difficult and said the group must reset, stay positive and build a united side. "Only we can do this," he said, adding that the players have to rewrite their history together.
Wembley memories still stand out
The final of Euro 2028 will be played at Wembley, where Italy beat England in the Euro 2020 final in 2021 under Mancini. Donnarumma said that night remains one of the best moments of his life, alongside the birth of his son.
He said the image he will always keep is embracing Mancini and Gianluca Vialli after the final whistle, describing Vialli as someone who gave a great deal to the squad.
City role under Maresca
Donnarumma also spoke about his second season at Manchester City, saying Enzo Maresca has shown him a lot of trust. He said being named one of the club's captains is a major honour and praised Maresca's attention to detail and the atmosphere he creates.
