Egypt and Belgium drew 1-1 in their World Cup Group G meeting in Seattle, with the game decided by a first-half finish from Imam Ashour and an equaliser that went in off Yasser Ibrahim.
Ashour gave Egypt the lead in the 20th minute after Mohamed Salah found him just outside the area. He hit a powerful shot past the Belgian defence, and Egypt went into half-time ahead after also threatening on the break.
Belgium improved after the interval and came closest in the 52nd minute when Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick struck the post. Their equaliser arrived in the 65th minute when Thomas Meunier’s delivery from the left was helped into the net by Romelu Lukaku, with the goal credited as an own goal by Ibrahim.
Both sides pushed for a winner after that, but neither could find a second goal and the points were shared.
