Mustafa Zico criticised the match official after Egypt lost 3-2 to Argentina in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking to FIFA’s network, the Egypt international said the referee was not fair and claimed the officiating was tilted from the start. He said Egypt were prevented from beating Argentina by two goals and accused the official of ruining the team’s work across the match.
Zico also said the referee had destroyed the dream of a nation and ended his comments with a religious appeal. He went on to congratulate Argentina on the title, saying the trophy was theirs regardless of what happened.
He finished by apologising to Egypt’s supporters, saying the team had wanted to make them happy and had fought until the final moment.
