Eric Garcia and Gavi line up for Barcelona captaincy roles

Barcelona must add two new names to their captaincy group after Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo both left the leadership set-up, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Garcia and Gavi in the frame

Eric Garcia and Gavi are the leading candidates to join the club’s five-man group of captains. Their influence in the dressing room and their close connection to La Masia are understood to be the main reasons behind their inclusion.

Both players also enjoy strong trust inside the club, and the move would give them a bigger role in leading the squad next season.

How the captaincy would look

If the plan is finalised, Frenkie de Jong would become Barcelona’s first captain. Raphinha and Pedri would follow him in the pecking order, with Garcia and Gavi completing the leadership group as fourth and fifth captains.
