Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has been named La Liga’s coach of the month for September after a flawless start to the league campaign.
Perfect month for Barcelona
La Liga confirmed the award on Tuesday, 29 September. Barcelona won all four of their league matches in September, beating Valencia 5-0 at Mestalla, Levante 4-2 away, Racing Santander 7-2 at the Nou Camp and Sevilla 3-1 at the Sánchez Pizjuán.
Those results gave Flick’s side 12 points from 12 and 19 goals across the month, a rate of 4.75 per game.
Rivals in the running
Flick beat Atlético Madrid’s Diego Simeone and Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini to the award. Atlético also put together a strong month, following defeat to Athletic Bilbao with three straight wins against Real Sociedad, Osasuna and Real Madrid.
Barcelona ended September top of La Liga with 21 points from 21 and no defeats or draws, a start described as the club’s best in the competition’s history. It is the third straight season that Flick has been among La Liga’s monthly coaching winners.
