That leaves the England captain one behind Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé in the competition’s scoring table. It also takes his tally for club and country this season to 72 goals in 62 matches, according to Transfermarkt.
Bayern Munich account for 61 of those strikes, with another 11 for England. On that basis, Kane now sits joint second on the all-time list of most prolific seasons in football history.
Only Messi’s 82-goal campaign for Barcelona and Argentina in 2011-12 ranks above it. If games played are the 기준, Kane sits third behind Gerd Müller, who scored 72 goals in 54 matches in 1972-73.
Kane’s total is also six more than Cristiano Ronaldo’s best goalscoring season. The World Cup now offers him a chance to add the Golden Boot to a record-breaking campaign.
