Thierry Henry says Portugal did not create enough chances for Cristiano Ronaldo during their disappointing World Cup 2026 campaign.
The former France forward said Portugal underperformed despite their talent and singled out several players for failing to reach the level expected of them. He said Bruno Fernandes was far below his usual standard, while Vitinha and João Neves were almost invisible in the tournament.
Henry also pushed back against the criticism aimed at Ronaldo. He said that if Roberto Martínez chose to start the striker, the team had to build chances suited to him. Instead, Portugal circulated possession without purpose and rarely found one of the most ruthless finishers the game has seen.
Henry argued that the issue was not Ronaldo, but the players around him, who did not deliver the service he needed.
