Gianni Infantino described Algeria and Austria’s 3-3 draw at the 2026 World Cup as a historic game after both sides reached the round of 16.

The FIFA president posted on Instagram after the final group match, writing that only football could produce such emotion and calling the contest a “magic moment”. He said the two national teams had delivered a historic match and helped underline the World Cup’s status as the biggest sporting event in the world.

Algeria will face Switzerland in the round of 16, while Austria meet Spain.
