Inter’s Champions League form has collapsed, with seven defeats in their last eight matches in the competition and only one win, against Borussia Dortmund.
Brugge deal another blow
The latest setback came at home to Club Brugge, leaving Inter on zero points and near the bottom of the table in the league phase. It also extended a run that started last season and has now included defeats against Bodo/Glimt, Arsenal, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.
Defensive problems keep adding up
Nicolo Tresoldi scored a hat-trick at San Siro, while Inter have conceded 14 goals across their last eight matches in all competitions and six in their first two European fixtures this season. Chivu said after the match: "Our record in the Champions League is worrying. We became frustrated, got carried away and lost our balance."
Inter remain strong in Serie A, but that has not carried into Europe. Defensive errors, individual mistakes and a lack of control in important moments have left them facing a difficult route to the round of 16, with six league-phase matches still to play.
