Italy plans €4.5bn stadium overhaul before Euro 2032

Italy has set out a wide stadium renewal plan ahead of Euro 2032, with 13 cities and 16 projects included in the proposed programme.

Joint push for modern venues

Sports minister Andrea Abodi said the government, municipalities and clubs are aligned for the first time in years on moving the projects forward. The aim is to build or refurbish stadiums that meet modern European football standards.

The plan carries an estimated investment of about €4.5bn. It comes after years of debate over ageing stadiums, which have left much of Italy's football infrastructure behind some other major European leagues.

Long delays have held projects back

Italian clubs and cities have repeatedly run into administrative hurdles, local disputes and slow permit processes, which have delayed or blocked earlier stadium schemes.

Abodi said the current political and institutional alignment gives the project a better chance of moving beyond promises.

If delivered, the overhaul could improve matchday facilities, increase club revenues through commercial space and strengthen Italy's ability to host major international fixtures.
