Jamal Salami: We played bravely against

Jordan coach Jamal Salami praised his players after their 3-1 defeat to Austria in their opening World Cup 2026 match, saying they produced a respectable display against an experienced side.

Salami said his team played with “a big heart” and bravery, and added that they created some good moments despite the result. He singled out Ali Olwan’s strike as Jordan’s first-ever goal at a World Cup, calling it a historic moment for the country.

He also said Jordan controlled the game for a spell after equalising, but that small details decide matches at this level. Salami urged his side to learn from their mistakes as they look ahead to the rest of Group J.

Jordan still have two matches left in the group, and Salami said the team will return with the aim of getting a better result. He also thanked Jordanian supporters in the stadium and around the world for backing the team and giving the players motivation.
