Klopp: Football isn't just about having the best players

Jürgen Klopp has again stressed that football success depends on teamwork and tactical planning, not just having talented players.

In comments on match preparation, the German coach said teams must identify an opponent’s strengths and work to reduce their impact during the game. He said: “These players have extraordinary talent, but football is not just about having the best players. We also have to limit the opponent’s strengths. We worked on that so these players could be their best version.”

Klopp’s view fits the approach he used at Liverpool, where his sides pressed high up the pitch, cut passing lanes and forced opponents into quick decisions. In that setup, pressing was a collective task rather than an individual action, with coordination central to the method.

He has also said in the past that a coach’s job is to create the right conditions for players to perform at their best. The wider point is unchanged: stars can make the difference, but the top level still requires planning, opponent analysis and precise team execution.
