Omar Marmoush says Egypt are heading to the 2026 World Cup with the aim of proving their level on the global stage, not simply making up the numbers.
The Manchester City forward, speaking to the club’s magazine, said representing his country at the tournament is a major honour, but insisted Egypt want to compete for results and make a real mark. The World Cup will be held across the United States, Mexico and Canada for the first time, and Egypt have been drawn in Group 7 with Belgium, Iran and New Zealand.
Egypt open their campaign against Belgium. Marmoush said the squad know the quality of the opposition and are being realistic about the challenge, but added that the team are not entering the tournament with a mindset of early elimination.
He said the main target is to get out of the group, then build from there. Marmoush also described strong belief within the squad and said Egypt want to show they belong among the game’s leading sides.
