Lionel Messi praised Argentina’s fight after they came from 2-0 down to beat Egypt 3-2 and reach the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals.
Messi, who scored one of Argentina’s three goals, said no game in the tournament has been easy and described the comeback as one his side earned through persistence.
“This is the World Cup and almost every match goes this way, hard and tight,” he told reporters after the match.
He added that overturning a two-goal deficit was far from straightforward, but insisted Argentina “never give up” and keep fighting until the final whistle. Messi also pointed to Cristian Romero’s early goal after the turnaround, saying it gave Argentina time to keep pushing.
The Argentina captain thanked the supporters as well, saying he was pleased they could enjoy what the team had produced in such a dramatic finish.
