Lionel Messi was named the best player on the pitch after Argentina’s 3-2 win over Egypt in the 2026 World Cup round of 16.

Argentina came through a tight last-16 tie against Egypt to advance as one of the tournament’s leading contenders. Messi scored Argentina’s second goal in the game, despite also missing a penalty during the match.

The Argentina captain’s goal took his tally in the competition to eight.
