Luka Modric has not ruled out carrying on with Croatia, with the midfielder saying he has yet to make a final decision on his international future.

RTL, as reported by فوتبالی, claimed the Croatia captain does not intend to retire from international football and wants to keep wearing the national shirt. Modric’s own comments were more cautious.
Speaking to AS, the 40-year-old said he still needs to speak to the Croatian Football Federation and the new national-team coach, Slaven Bilic, before deciding what comes next. He also said he has not set a date for the end of his playing career.
Modric reached 200 international appearances against Panama at the 2026 World Cup and now stands on 202 caps and 29 goals, making him Croatia’s most capped player.
What happens next
Croatia face the Czech Republic and Spain in their next Nations League fixtures. Modric, who turns 41 on 9 September, said he still feels the motivation, desire and love to play, but will judge his future by how he feels physically and emotionally across the season.
