José Mourinho has said the Ballon d'Or should go to the best player in the world, not simply to a winner of the Champions League or World Cup.

Speaking on the sidelines of his side's La Liga press conference, Mourinho said the award should go to one of the retired greats, naming Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Ronaldo Nazário and Zinedine Zidane as players football still misses.
He added that the prize should not be handed out only because a player has won the Champions League or the World Cup. “If it is only for winning the Champions League, then give it to Luis Enrique,” he said.
Mourinho also said the Ballon d'Or should go to the top three or four players in the world, adding that it should not necessarily go to a Spanish player or to someone from Paris Saint-Germain.
He finished by saying the award is political and that he did not want to get into politics.
