Nagelsmann: We are fighting for the championship

Julian Nagelsmann says Germany have begun analysing possible knockout-stage opponents ahead of Thursday night’s World Cup meeting with Ecuador.

Germany can secure a place in the next round with a win and the head coach said his staff have already watched several candidate opponents, while the analysis team has done the same.

Nagelsmann also played down the need for major changes to his side after two straight victories, saying the team still needs time together after limited preparation before the tournament. He pointed out that several players had recently returned to the squad after long absences.

He did, though, confirm there will be changes for the Ecuador match because Brown has picked up a minor injury and Schlotterbeck has suffered a serious setback.

Nagelsmann added that Germany may have to spend Saturday night working on their next plan, with the aim of avoiding a rushed build-up if they top the group.
