Nagelsmann: We had an ideal start, but the job is not done yet

Germany opened their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 7-1 win over Curaçao in Group E, but Julian Nagelsmann urged his players not to get carried away.

The Germany head coach said the team started well, played with concentration from the first minutes and showed good quality on the ball. He also pointed to the variety in the scoring and the number of chances created as positives from the performance.

Nagelsmann said Germany pressed with intensity and handled possession well, but stressed that it was only one match and nothing had been achieved yet. He added that the aim is to finish top of the group.

He also praised Curaçao for their approach, noting that they played bravely and scored their first ever World Cup goal. The Caribbean side are appearing at the tournament for the first time and are the smallest nation in the competition.

Germany now turn to their next Group E match against Ivory Coast, which Nagelsmann said will demand the same level of focus.
