Manuel Neuer set two Champions League records as Bayern Munich played on in the competition on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, with the goalkeeper making his 18th season in the tournament.
Neuer passes Müller
The appearance moved Neuer beyond Thomas Müller to become the German player with the most seasons in the Champions League. He now sits alongside some of the competition’s longest-serving names.
Only Iker Casillas, with 20 seasons, and Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Ryan Giggs and Pepe, with 19 each, have more seasons in the competition than Neuer.
Oldest German in the competition
Neuer also became the oldest German player in Champions League history at 40 years and 167 days, taking the record from Jens Lehmann.
The Bayern goalkeeper continues to add to his record list late in his career, with his latest milestone underlining his place in both German football and the Champions League record books.
