Pochettino pleased by US start after Paraguay win

Mauricio Pochettino said he was happy with the United States’ performance after their 4-1 win over Paraguay in the opening round of the 2026 World Cup group stage, but warned that the tournament has only just started.

The US head coach said his side began the match with high intensity and energy, and that helped them take control early. He praised the players, especially in the first half, and said the team carried out its tactical plan well on the pitch.

Pochettino also singled out the forwards, including Folarin Balogun, saying their job goes beyond scoring goals. He said their pressing from the front and work within the team structure were just as important.
