The end of the Flick saga: The Champions League is not La Liga

Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2 at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night to end the visitors’ 11-match winning run in all competitions.

PSG take control after a level game

Desire Doue opened the scoring in the 38th minute, but Barcelona twice pulled level through Xavi Espart in the 55th minute and Lamine Yamal in the 79th. PSG then finished stronger, with goals from Lucas Hernandez on 72 minutes, Vitinha in the 81st minute and Fabian Ruiz in the 86th.

The hosts also led the expected-goals count, 3.8 to 2.2, and the match produced 40 shots in total. Barcelona had their moments after the break, but PSG used the space on the counter-attack and took their chances late on.

Another difficult night for Flick

The result matched last season’s meeting between the sides, when PSG beat Barcelona 2-1 at Montjuic in the league phase. Hansi Flick’s team had started this Champions League campaign with three wins from three, while PSG now sit top of the league table with nine points.

Barcelona remain on six points after two wins and one defeat, with attention now turning to El Clasico.
