Ralf Rangnick said Austria’s 3-1 win over Jordan in their opening 2026 World Cup match was harder than expected, despite his satisfaction with the result.
The Austria coach said Jordan were organised, dangerous on the counter-attack and deserving of respect after making their World Cup debut. He added that their quality made the game tough for Austria.
Rangnick also pointed to Austria’s response after Jordan equalised, saying his team showed character at that point. He said there are no easy matches at a World Cup and that this game proved it.
The result gave Austria three points from their first group game, something Rangnick described as important. He said the focus now must move to the next match in a group he expects to be tightly contested.
