Romero targets silverware at Atlético
Cristian Romero has set out his ambition to win trophies after completing his £34m move from Tottenham to Atlético Madrid.
The Argentina defender left Spurs after five years in north London and chose Atlético despite interest from Barcelona and Inter.
Romero said he wanted to make his mark at the club and believes the only way to do that is by winning honours. He added that Atlético’s style of play suits him.
He also pointed to the presence of several Argentine team-mates and the atmosphere at the stadium as factors in his decision.
Simeone gives him a familiar fit
Romero will now work under Diego Simeone, another Argentine who has long admired his game.
Romero said he had already felt the support of Atlético fans when he faced the club in the Champions League, and promised full commitment to the badge and shirt. He said football can go well or badly, but his effort will not change.
