Cristiano Ronaldo finished Portugal's World Cup warm-up phase without a goal, missing chances in friendlies against Chile and Nigeria.
Roberto Martinez kept the captain on the pitch in both matches, even as he rotated the rest of his likely starters. Ronaldo failed to score against Chile and had a particularly frustrating night against Nigeria, where he missed a one-on-one chance and did not put his shots on target.
Against Chile, only one of his three attempts hit the target. He also saw a clear header taken away by a defender in the Nigeria game.
Ronaldo, however, brushed off any concern. Speaking before his sixth World Cup, the Al Nassr forward said he felt physically fine and argued that preparation games are rarely played at full intensity.
His club form remains strong, with 30 goals in 37 games for Al Nassr this season. He also scored five times in Portugal's five World Cup qualifying matches. Portugal now turn to a key meeting with DR Congo in Houston.
