Ronaldo doubles up as Portugal hit Uzbekistan for five

Portugal recovered from their opening 1-1 draw with Congo by sweeping Uzbekistan aside 5-0 in their World Cup 2026 group game.

Cristiano Ronaldo led the way with two goals, taking his World Cup tally to 10 and keeping himself in touch with the leading scorers in the tournament.

Nuno Mendes also scored, while Abdulvahid Nematov put through his own net and Rafael Leão completed the scoring.

Uzbekistan did have the ball in the net in the 29th minute through Azizjan Ganiyev, but the goal was ruled out after VAR checked a foul by Fayzullaev on João Cancelo.

The result sends Portugal to the top of the group. Colombia and Congo meet in the other fixture.
