Cristiano Ronaldo said Portugal’s performance mattered more than his latest record after he became the first player to score at six World Cups.
Portugal beat Uzbekistan 5-0 in their second match of the 2026 World Cup, with Ronaldo scoring twice in Houston after drawing a blank against Congo in the opening game.
Ronaldo said he was pleased with the result and, more importantly, with the confidence Portugal showed. He said the team had improved sharply and pointed to the contrast with the Congo match, adding that Portugal had shown its better side against Uzbekistan.
On the record, Ronaldo kept the focus on the team. Personal milestones were good, he said, but his aim has always been to help Portugal reach its goals.
The win gave Portugal a strong response after the Congo draw and put Ronaldo in a unique place in World Cup history.
