Ronaldo urges Neymar not to rush Brazil retirement call

Ronaldo Nazário has urged Neymar not to make a hasty decision on his Brazil future after the team’s painful exit from the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking on Rede Ronaldo and TNT Sports Brasil, the former striker said emotions should not shape a major career call made in the immediate aftermath of the defeat.

“Right now, do not ask anything of yourself and do not make any decision,” Ronaldo said. “There is no need. Neither you nor anyone else has to decide about the future at this moment.”

Ronaldo also pointed to the workload Neymar carried to get to the tournament, saying the forward reached it after two years of serious injury problems and had shown sacrifice to play for Brazil.

He added that a return to Santos should help Neymar rebuild rhythm and confidence. Ronaldo said regular football would allow the 33-year-old to play 10 or 15 matches in a row, find his timing, score again and recover his belief.

Neymar’s international future remains uncertain after his emotional remarks following Brazil’s exit. He is still the country’s all-time leading scorer, but no decision has been made on whether he will continue with the national team.
