Thomas Roncero has hit out at Argentina supporters after their late comeback against England, saying their celebrations have turned into overconfidence before the World Cup final.
The AS journalist accused sections of the Argentina camp of belittling Spain’s route to the final and treating the tournament as already won. He said the mood around the Albiceleste had shifted after the rapid turnaround against England, with some fans now acting as if Sunday’s match is a formality.
Roncero said he has been staying up until 4am watching videos of Spanish supporters, while taking issue with claims that Spain lack heart and courage. He insisted the final will answer those criticisms on the pitch.
“If we win on Sunday, it will be worth three World Cups to me,” he said. “If we win on Sunday, I won’t even take part in the Spain 2030 World Cup.”
He ended by framing the final as a chance for Spain to punish what he sees as Argentina’s premature celebrations and public underestimation of his country’s team.
