Fabián Ruiz reached 49 Spain caps against France and still has not lost a match in normal time for his country.
His only setback in that run came in the 2025 UEFA Nations League final against Portugal, when Spain lost 5-7 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. That shoot-out is recorded officially as a draw.
Ruiz has now won 34 of his 49 appearances and scored seven goals. He was part of Spain’s Euro 2024 squad and started the final against England, after helping them win the Nations League in 2023.
That progress followed a difficult spell in 2022, when he was left out and had no real role in the team. At the World Cup, he scored the winner in Spain’s 2-1 quarter-final victory over Belgium.
Ahead of the tournament, Ruiz said Spain felt like a family and added that he had worked for years to reach the moment. Spain are now through to the final, with their opponents to be confirmed on Wednesday night.
