Saudi Arabia face Uruguay in Group H clash

Saudi Arabia meet Uruguay at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens in one of the more eye-catching Group H fixtures at the 2026 World Cup.

Saudi Arabia are trying to channel the spirit of their 2-1 win over Argentina in 2022, when they produced one of the tournament’s biggest shocks before exiting in the group stage. They qualified for 2026 as runners-up in their group, with two wins, three draws and one defeat.

Uruguay arrive under Marcelo Bielsa, whose side press high and play with plenty of physical intensity. Their recent form is steadier than Saudi Arabia’s, with four wins, four draws and two defeats in their last 10 matches, although they have gone four games without a victory and a 5-1 loss to the United States raised concerns.

Saudi Arabia are without injured goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi, while captain Salem Al-Dawsari remains their main attacking threat. Uruguay may also be missing José Giménez, Ronald Araújo, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Matías Viña and Sebastián Cáceres.
