Lionel Scaloni says he has not decided on a replacement for Leonardo Balerdi after the defender was dropped from Argentina’s squad with a soleus injury.
Argentina beat Honduras 2-0 in a pre-World Cup 2026 friendly, but Scaloni used the post-match press conference to warn that the Balerdi setback could affect more than one place in the group.
He said several players are not at full fitness and that the staff will assess the rest of the squad before making any decisions. Argentina have another match to come, and Scaloni said the final call will wait until Tuesday.
Balerdi, who plays for Marseille, was removed from the list on Friday night after the muscle injury. Scaloni said the situation means “many more team-mates” will be evaluated before the squad is finalised.
