Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has named Argentina, France, Portugal, Spain, England, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay and Morocco as the main contenders for the 2026 World Cup.

In a recent interview, Scaloni said Morocco also have a small chance of lifting the trophy and can be considered among the teams in the frame.

His comments put the current world champions in a group of nine nations he believes will shape the race for football's biggest prize in 2026. France and Portugal were among the other European sides he highlighted, while Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay made up the South American names on his list.

Morocco, who reached the semi-finals in 2022, also featured in Scaloni's assessment as an outside contender.
