Serie A has scored more goals from players under 21 than any of Europe’s other major leagues this season. Its tally of goals from players over 33 is among the lowest.
Young players lead the way
Published figures show under-21 players have scored 49 goals in Serie A this season. That puts the Italian league top among the continent’s five major competitions.
The same data shows a sharp contrast at the other end of the age scale. Teams in Serie A have conceded only eight goals to players aged over 33, a total matched only by the Premier League among the big five.
A younger look to the season
The numbers point to heavier use of younger players in Italy this season. They also show Serie A has taken on a younger profile than its traditional image in this campaign.
